History marked by performance

This year Wannik particpated in an important major public performance to honour and remember the legacies of Sir Douglas Nicholls and William Cooper. The Official Launch of the Pastor Sir Douglas Nicholls and William Cooper Mural on the wall in the lane beside Goulburn Valley Water in Fryers Street on 23rd of May was moment for our Year 7 and 8 Girls who performed their Welcome to County Dance in front of several hundred appreciative spectators. We received several positive comments from members of the audience which reflected pride in the girls for their respectful approach, their leadership potential and general bearing.

The stories of the human rights achievements of Cooper and Nicholls are examples to us all of both the 'power of one' and 'the power of community'. Values of belonging and respect are embedded in the legacy of these two revered men. May we all endeavour to do what we can to honour their legacy.

As we strive at MSC to be Cumbungi Champions, bearing in mind that for each us 'best is my challenge', we look to the examples of those that have gone before us and strived to make the world a better place. The spirits of Sir Douglas Nicholls and William Cooper are with us and they are two of those examples that we can turn to in our efforts to demonstrate belonging, achievement, respect and teamwork in our world today, right now. As we strive to achieve in our learning and actions at MSC, strive to represent our House Tribes of Banksia, Boronia, Heath and Waratah, strive to be the claimants of the Flowers Cup and win the House Tribe Rulers of the school for a year title, we are actually striving for much more than any of that. We strive to uphold our values true and live in a way that honours the legacies of heroes, such as Nicholls and Williams, who have fought for equality, freedom and 'opportunity for all'. Let us make the most of the opportunities our school, community, country and world offer up to us.
