UNDER 19 NATIONAL ROAD CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS - LIAM EDWARDS
MSC VCE student Liam Edwards rode in the Under 19 National Road Cycling Championship.
The road race was a 113km distance and an undulating lap course consisting of
just over 2 laps held at Anakie near Geelong. Every State and Territory around
Australia was present except for the Northern Territory. This was the third and
final race of the Under 19 National Team Selection races. Other Selection races
were the Oceania's held in Canberra and the Tour of Mersey Valley held in
Tasmania. Liam got into a break of 6 riders and then Liam and another rider
Mitchell Wright from NSW broke away and worked together to establish a handy
lead. Mitchell Wright (NSW) was first across the line followed by Liam and then
3rd place was another fellow VIC with Jensen Plowright from the VIS. The Under
19 Australian Road Cycling Team will be announced in the next few weeks with
selectors having the hard task of picking a team of four riders out of such
great young talent. Multiple Tour de France rider Brad McGee is one of the
selectors. The World Championships will be held in Norway in September.
Points have been awarded to Boronia for Liam's outstanding achievement in his road cycling.
