An MSC Legend - Jim Douglass

An inspiration and leader to us all in demonstrating the values of belonging, achievement, respect and teamwork. An 'MSC Cumbungi Champion'. Thank you for all you did for MSC Jim.

Mooroopna Secondary College would like to acknowledge James “Jim” Douglass for his contribution to the College.

Jim was instrumental in bringing a high school to Mooroopna. Planning in the early 1970’s had a High School to be built in Tatura. Jim and several other prominent Mooroopna identities formed a group to try to have the school built in Mooroopna.

Jim personally wrote a fortnightly letter for two years to the Minister of Education. Ultimately, the group was successful, and in 1972, Mooroopna High was started.

Jim was on the Inaugural School Council and he remained on this body for 30 plus years. After resigning from the Council, he worked voluntarily in the school gardens for another 10 years, only stopping when his health (hip) gave way. He started the MSC Co-op to obtain loans for infrastructure improvements. Many of these projects are still being enjoyed by current students.

Jim was also very involved in the local community. He was a member of Apex, the Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis and also a great advocate for Mooroopna in the Tidy Towns competitions. Jim also was instrumental in raising funds for the Scout Hall. The park where the Scout Hall is situated was named in his honour… “The J A Douglass” park.

Jim will be sorely missed by the school and local community. Condolences to his family.
